MassiveCell Technologies
Massive Cell Technologies Ltd is a Finnish start-up technology company that is planning to manufacture batteries based on new type of massive cell technology currently under development. Nikola created a fresh, but stern visual identity that is capable of meeting the international standards for the international company of the future.
On the design special emphasis was put on the intelligibility and the recognisability of the visual identity. The logo is a hexagonal honeycomb bordering with colours representing innovation, progress and ecology. Energetic orange was selected as the main colour to describe the massive amount of energy these special batteries can store.
An orange-coloured multi-purpose pattern, in which hexagonal honeycombs represent battery cells, was also designed for the company. The combs/cells articulate greatness and large size; they are designed in the form of elephant or globe.

Olive Cars
Olive Cars is a car sharing club, whose members have access to electric cars for a monthly flat fee. Nikola helped Olive Cars to turn its visual identity more unified and focused – so that it would better suit the company's plans to go international.
Nikola created a unified colour and typography scheme for the company and designed a number of pictograms for various communication needs. The main colour in the colour scheme is olive green. Little bit of rough texture was added to the whole to represent eco-friendliness. Finally, a special visual design was created for the cars that may be used to decorate automobiles of various make and model.

bubblemotion by BM Design
BM Design is a Finnish start-up company that develops new type of Personal Rapid Transit (PRT) system for Finnish and international market, titled bubblemotion. Nikola designed for the company as well as for its products and services visual identities that reflect the ease of travel, lightness and movement.
The logo is shaped like a bubble that floats buoyantly above everything else. Capital letters B and M were put inside the bubble to represent the passengers of this new zero-emission form of public transportation.

Transition Company
Nikola designed an exceptional visual identity that intentionally diverges from the mainstream for a Finnish start-up company Transition Company Ltd. that specializes in converting internal combustion engine vehicles into pure electric ones and is planning to start its own electric bus production in the future.
The text "Batteries included" gets the main attention in the logo. The actual name of the company is printed below it in smaller size. The idea of the placement is to emphasize the electricity as the source of power in the vehicles Transition Company converts or produces. Furthermore, the idea is use different languages in the logo depending on the market for which the vehicles are produced.

innohaukka Rural innovators
The aim of Innohaukka Survey was to search and find innovative persons, enterprises and/or communities from the sparsely populated areas of Finland (in Finland all areas outside the five biggest cities are sparsely populated). Nikola did the research at the request of The Finnish Innovation Fund Sitra as a part of their Finnish Countryside Development Program.
The results of the survey were presented in ten (10) illustrated reports that introduced the innovators according to format that was developed by Nikola. You may download three example reports from the following links (unfortunately the reports are in Finnish): innohaukka02 / innohaukka07 / innohaukka09. In addition to the written reports, short video reports were produced from two of the cases. One of the videos may be seen here.

Tindo The solar-powered bus of Adelaide, Australia
Nikola collected data about the usage of an electric bus. For this purpose Nikola team interviewed Adelaide city officials, local bus drivers and passengers. Adelaide and its solar-powered bus was chosen to be the place of the research, because it has exctionally long experience in running an electric bus as a part of the city's public transportation. In addition to the interviews Nikola did literary research on the acquisition and running costs of electric busses.
Written and illustrated report and a video compiled from the interviews were presented to the client - Lahti Region Mechatronics Cluster – at the end of the project.

EVS25 China's Electric Bus Industry & Market
Nikola did a study about China's electric bus industry and Chinese market for electric busses for Transition Company Oy – a Finnish start-up specializing in electric vehicle conversions.
To do the study effectively Nikola team travelled to Shenzhen – one of the major cities of Southern China's Guangdong Province – located next to Hong Kong and participated the most important international annual electric vehicle event, Electric Vehicle Symposium (EVS25). Week in Shezhen and participating EVS25 gave Nikola an opportunity to interview several Chinese official, business people and researchers involved in electric vehicle industry at one go.
The findings of the research include the following:
• China aims to electrify the public transportation (busses and taxis) of its largest cities during the next 5-10 years
• The motivation for increasing number of electric vehicles is based on the urge to develop China's own vehicle industry as well as on decreasing the vast country's dependence on oil
• Chinese believe strongly that electric motor will replace internal combustion engine in automobiles in the near future. Supporting and expediting this development is seen as a mean to support China's own developing vehicle industry in its battle for domination with the western car companies.

electrictraffic.fi
Electrictraffic.fi or Electric Traffic Helsinki Test Bed is a joint business development and research project between 20 companies, 5 cities and 3 research and educational institutes. The project is partially financed by Tekes – the Finnish Funding Agency for Technology and Innovation – and is the largest project in Tekes' Electric Vehicle Systems (EVE) program. Electrictraffic.fi is also one of the largest of World Design Capital Helsinki 2012 projects.
As the whole name of the project implies, at its center is an electric car test fleet consisting of EV's that are used in regular traffic. The performance of the vehicles as well as their drivers are measured in may ways and the results will be analysed to learn more about the EV user experience. The test fleet also facilitates the testing of new business and service models related to electric traffic.
The project aims to create in Finland new business related to EVs and especially to the various services and the infrastructure that the cars and their drivers need in the future.
Nikola is in charge of project's communication to media and general audience. We have designed the visual identity of the project and have applied it to many uses. Nikola is also in charge of the project's web site.
